Hand on heart: There are probably few things that are more fun. We love decorating the nursery as expectant mothers, choosing colors and furniture, arranging everything perfectly for our beloved baby, and even cutting out little figures for the window. In doing so, we already imagine cuddling with our little one on the play mat and happily laying them down in their crib at night, watching them close their little eyes with a smile, while we sneak out of the room to hopefully find two hours of sleep for ourselves. However, the reality is a bit different. No matter how beautifully you have designed the room and how much love you have put into it, your newborn will most likely sleep in your room or even in your bed for the first 6 months. And you know what? That is absolutely okay.
Why your baby should sleep next to you at night
Many health organizations even advocate that your angel sleeps close to you in the beginning. It gives both you and your little one a sense of security, and if something happens, you are right there with them. And let's be honest, we know that our newborn will want to be fed two to six times a night, whether by breast or bottle.
It’s simply more convenient when you don’t have to walk through the house, but just get up once from bed and quickly lie back down again. We do everything for our little one, and we enjoy doing it, so it’s perfectly fine to indulge in that convenience.
In the beginning, especially when we become parents for the first time, we are programmed to wake up at the slightest sound to check if our little one is still breathing and if their feet aren’t too cold. Just as often, we love to simply watch our little angel sleep. And for that, it’s just practical that they sleep right next to us in a small bed.
Redesign your bedroom too
So take the opportunity to redesign your bedroom so that both you and your baby feel comfortable. Try to eliminate disturbing noises and light so that you both get healthy sleep.
The time will surely come when your baby will sleep in their own room and crib. Until then, appreciate the convenience of not having to walk far and enjoy the closeness of your child even during the night.
